Our Clinics

Family Planning

Family Planning Advice in all aspects of Family Planning may be obtained from any of the Doctors. Follow up checks and prescriptions are arranged with the Practice Nurse.

Immunisation Clinic

Alternate Wednesdays at each surgery

The Child Health Department at Garven Place Clinic sends out appointments. If you miss your appointment, they will automatically send for your child again.

You can find out more about vaccinations through the NHS Website here

There is more information made available by the Oxford Vaccine Knowledge Project here

Child Health Surveillance

When your child is 6 weeks old, he/she will be due for a Child Developmental Check. It is recommended that your child has the developmental check before starting their course of child vaccination. The surgery will send you an appointment for your baby to have this check carried out along with an appointment for you to have your Post Natal examination at the same time. Clinics are held on Tuesdays at Fearnhead and Friday at Longford St.

Health Advice Clinics

The Clinics are run by our Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants at various times throughout the week in order to give patients more choice and allow them to attend clinics on a day and time to suit themselves. The types of appointments available within any clinic are as follows:

Diabetic Clinic

Appointment are available at various times throughout the week. Diabetic patients are recalled for annual checks once a year. Patients need to have a blood test at least one week before attending the Diabetic Clinic. Nurses are available at other times for minor diabetic problems.

Well Woman Check

All women aged 25-64 are offered a well woman check every 3 years. This will involve a smear test and an explanation of how to carry out a regular self-breast examination. Please bring a sample of urine with you to this clinic.

Heart Care

The Practice Nurse monitors and advises patients who have heart disease (i.e. Angina/High Blood Pressure). The Practice Nurse will check any patient and advice on their risk of developing heart disease and how to avoid it. Blood Pressure, height, weight and family history will all be checked at this appointment and primary prevention information will be given.

Respiratory

The Practice Nurse aims to educate patients with Asthma or COPD about their condition. She will teach them how to use their inhaler correctly and encourage them to live a normal healthy lifestyle.

Well Person Check

A free MOT check is available for all patients. You do not need to see a Doctor first.

Patients registered at either surgery may access all of the services that this Practice provides regardless of which surgery it is based.
