Medical Students and GP Registrars

At Fearnhead Cross Medical Centre and Longford Street Surgery, we are proud to support the education and training of future healthcare professionals, including medical students and GP Registrars.

What is a GP Registrar?

A GP Registrar is a qualified and registered doctor who has chosen to specialise in General Practice.

After completing a medical degree at university, doctors undertake two years of Foundation Training, where they gain experience across a range of hospital and community specialties. They then choose a specialty, such as General Practice, and complete further specialist training.

GP specialty training typically lasts three years. Throughout this time, GP Registrars work under the supervision of experienced GP Trainers, who provide guidance, support and day-to-day supervision to help them develop the knowledge and skills needed to become independent GPs.

As part of their training, GP Registrars will see patients independently, with support from their supervising GP whenever needed.

Medical Students

We are also involved in the training of student nurses and fourth-year medical students from the University of Liverpool.

From time to time, a medical student may be present during your consultation. If this is the case, you will be informed when you book your appointment.

If you would prefer the student not to be present during your consultation, please let our Reception Team know. Your decision will not affect the care you receive in any way.
