Discover Me

Discover Me is a research project that we are currently participating in. The majority of our adult patients are eligible for this study so you may receive a text message to invite you to the study.

• What is this research study about?

The study is aiming to study the health of thousands of people in the UK to improve patient care. It will connect genetic information to other health information to try and understand why diseases affect some people more than others, why diseases progress differently in different people and how to better prevent, manage and diagnose diseases

• What will happen if I decide to take part?

Taking part in Discover Me would involve the following:

1. Enrolling to be part of the study, this includes providing a saliva or mouth swap sample and some details about yourself. The enrolment form will be sent out via a link on your invitation text message 
2. Allowing information from your health and care records (such as GP records, hospital records and disease registries) and other sources to be collected alongside your sample
3. Agreeing to be contacted in the future by the research team about this study and other studies
4. Choosing whether to receive information on your genetic ancestry from your sample and some of your health information from your health and care records
